This review is longggg overdue. I mentioned I was reading this book all the way back here and finished it so fast but I just hadn’t gotten around to writing the review till now. Although this is actually the perfect time because I consider this to be a great beach read. Most of the chapters were nice and short so you can easily read one in between dips in the ocean.
I truly enjoyed this book and would recommend it, which I already have done to friends and family! Yes Mom, I know I told you that you could borrow it ages ago, you can now. I found the book to be an easy and entertaining read and caught myself actually laughing out loud many times! And unfortunately for Bill this was then followed by me reading out loud the part that made me laugh, every single time. Sorry Bill, thanks for being so patient!
The book was everything you would expect it to be: witty, humorous, a bit inappropriate, entertaining, and outrageous. However, there was also a lot of tenderness and love, which really showed you how much Melissa and Joan cared about one another. Even if they showed it in their own way, aka making fun of and teasing one another. You can tell that they were truly best friends and an amazing pair.
What I really loved about the book was how Melissa talked about how when her mother started out in comedy she just made fun of herself. This made it so by the time she was famous people were used to the things she would say and she could more or less get away with saying anything about anyone. I know not everyone shares the same sense of humor but I found her hilarious. I loved how she just wasn’t afraid to say exactly what was on her mind, all the while still poking fun at herself. I wish I could quote the entire book but instead I will leave you with a classic Joan Rivers line, “I’ve had so much plastic surgery, when I die they will donate my body to Tupperware.”
I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review, however, all opinions are my own.
