I am in love with this dress I rented from Rent The Runway, I wish I could wear it everyday! Renting dresses for black tie weddings is the way to go!
I know Rent the Runway has been around for ages but I just never took the plunge and I’m really not sure why-this process was a breeze! Bill and I had a black tie wedding and I had nothing to wear in my closet, yet I really didn’t want to buy a new dress. Not only is the space limited in my tiny closet, but I also really don’t need another fancy dress. But I really wanted to wear a gown so…
I knew I wanted to rent my dress!
I had zero idea which style I wanted though, so I scheduled an appointment with a stylist at the Rent The Runway store on W. 15th in NYC. I’ve found that I need to try on a few dresses before I find one I really love, so what better way than going into the store? I’m lucky enough to live in a location where there is a store, but if you don’t, then Rent The Runway is still great because you can order two sizes of whatever you order as “insurance”. Here are all of the store locations.
I tried on so many gorgeous dresses but then ended up choosing this purple Badgley Mischka Orchid Gown because it made me feel like Barbie. Who doesn’t want to feel like Barbie?! It seriously hugged in all of the right places and was insanely comfortable. I honestly never wanted to take it off! It was one of those dresses that helps to give you confidence when it’s on because it just fits so well.
I would say this particular dress was pretty TTS since I’m a 4 normally and this was a 4Long. I’m 5’9″ for reference and I could not have worn the regular version with heels. The only issue I had with the dress at all was that the zipper was a bit hard to do, which I actually read in the reviews on the website. Which side note, the reviews aspect of Rent The Runway are SO helpful. For each article of clothing you can rent, real customers can upload pictures of them wearing it and list out their measurements and sizes, so you know how the dress fit and what event they wore it to.
I enjoyed using the stylist this time and going in for an appointment, but I don’t think it’s absolutely necessary. Next time I think I would just pop into the store and look at things on my own or I would just order online. The major pluses of using the stylist was the fact that you didn’t have the very long line for the dressing room in the store, I tried on dresses I might not have picked if I were looking for myself, and you had a knowledgable second opinion. Overall I was SO pleased with my dress and just want to wear it again ha!
Also, not to embarrass him too much but how handsome does Bill look?! I was so happy when he agreed to be in these photos with me. I’m definitely going to be printing some of these! And for anyone coming to New York, we took these photos on the stairs of the Met Museum but we went at 9am, which is an hour before the museum opens. That’s my trick to not having a ton of people in the background and making these feel more intimate!
Sorry this post got so lengthy, I just wanted to make sure to give you all the information. Thanks for reading if you’re still here!
